The most ridiculously series I have ever read was that by Douglas Adams - the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As a teen, I remember hearing a lot about it, buying a massive book containing all the volumes between a single cover, and then spending a week reading one page over and over again before realizing I still had no idea what Adams was on about and so set it aside for good. I did however, finish the first three books. To anyone looking to pick them up, I'd recommend stopping after book one.
Magrathea though was an interesting
place. It was a planet located in the Horsehead Nebula that was
involved in the very specialist industry of building luxury planets.
If you could dream it, and pay for it, those working on Magrathea
would create it. Even square ones.
One of the planets Magreathea crafted
was Earth (for a race of hyperintelligent pandimensional beings who
in this dimension look like mice) to serve as a giant computer. What
calculation could possibly need a planet sized computer and several
thousand years to compute? The ultimate question of Life, the
Universe, and Everything.
I know a lot of Adams purists didn't like the latest movie, but I loved it :) It was silly enough without being thoroughly depressing, which happens if you think too much about everything in the books :)

I saw the movie and then forgot about it XD It didn't stick with me at all.
DeleteAnd the answer is 42! :D I love those books. A kind of humor that I can get behind :)

42 indeed. Which then begs the question, what was the exact question? And what happened to the dolphins?
DeleteI loved The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy when I was a teenager. I later discovered Douglas Adams wrote his books in a country hotel not far from where I live in Devon, England.
ReplyDeleteReally? That's awesome!
DeleteNow the book I still haven't finished (planning to, it's loads of fun), but the movie? Ah! I LOVE "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" I mean Martin Freeman for God's sake! Martin Freaking! Freeman. Enough said.
ReplyDeleteI love Martin, but this was one thing he didn't sell for me. I'm pretty indifferent to the movie. But I'm also pretty indifferent to the books as most of the concepts didn't stay with me.
DeleteSlartibartfast is probably my favourite character from Hitchhikers, so I like your choice today :)

I've always wanted to read these books. For some weird reason I've always thought being a hitchhiker would be fun. Being a hitchhiker through the galaxy would be even better.
ReplyDeleteSo, I haven't heard about that series but I am glad I stopped by to know about this and a little more :)
