Londinium is from a show that needs to
do a better job of naming planets - Firefly. And by doing a better
job, I mean making them stick in my head because I had to resort to
Wiki to remember any of them. Shame, shame, Whedon. How am I to talk
about your show if I can't name the settings? *ahem*
(Actually, looking at these wikia
sources, all the information comes from places other than the show.
Dang. Oh well, most of Firefly I guess could be said to take place in
The Black and it's a show I highly recommend. Wa~tch it! Tis only one
season.)

In Firefly, a sf western, for lack of a
better term, Londinium was one of the first planets colonized after
the mass exodus from Earth. It also, in my mind quite amazingly,
housed some of the old museums from Earth.
Amazing programme - so sad it wasn't given the chance it deserved. I have them all recorded to watch again very soon!

Yeah, it needed more time. But it did continue in comics so at least the story didn't die.
DeleteI LOVE Firefly! :) And I kinda liked that the naming pattern, since humans were naming all the colonies, followed the naming patterns observed in Earth colonial history...

True. Londinium was also an early name for London. But in the world they also used mythology to name planets. Just like BSG.
DeleteI loved Firefly, still can't believe it was only one season! I think the movie is awesome too, what was it called? and your right, I don't remember a planet name from that show, hmm.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is called Serenity, and is a great example of fan power because without that it would have never been made. But still too short.
DeleteI don't recall that planet from the show. I guess other things about the series was way more memorable. LOL
ReplyDeleteEverything BUT the planets were memorable. But that's okay with me.
DeleteMaybe one day Firefly will have another chance. A huge fandom is ready and waiting. :)
ReplyDeleteSadly, I don't think it will outside of games and graphic novels. But those bits have strong fans too.
DeleteI've seen Serenity, but not Firefly...I must remedy that,

For sure, because Firefly comes first. Silly you, doing things backwards.
