AYWN beginings

It's the last day of February! Which means, of course, that it's time for the first ever post of Are You Writing Now?. Which means I have to think of writing goals.

Goals are kinda hard for me, as I usually don't think of anything definitive and instead think thoughts like 'I would like to do this by this'. Which of course means lot of unedited and unfinished projects sitting around on my harddrive.

So, I'm bound and determined this month to:
  • draw out the ending of Flicker
  • finish the last chapter of my NaNo novel and start rereading it (not finish mind you, just start)
  • seriously start looking into self-publishing avenues (I know, I know, I said I wouldn't do that to a piece until 50 rejections, but life has changed a bit since then, I'll write about that later)
  • finish reading a book (any of my current 5 reads will do, I just have to pick one and focus on it!)

Ug, I've been sick for the past day and have done nothing but lay in bed or on the couch. It's at times like these I need a cat to cuddle with, but as I don't have one I've been watching videos of Maru. Isn't he cute?

  2. Some good goals there, I hope you get them all!

Leaning towards self-publishing too, I don't think I can be bothered sitting around waiting for 50 agents to reject me. They're just very, very selective, I don't think it's because my work is rubbish (I'm almost sure it's not, haha).

    1. That's always my problem, does an editor reject me because of my writing or because it doesn't fit with the market? I would like to be traditionally published, but it is a time consuming process that is hard to get through if you're squeezed for time.

  3. I rarely set goals. Then I don't feel as bad if I fail :)

  4. What a cute kittie Gwen! Hope you feel better soon.

Good luck with your goals. You can do it! (By the way, I wouldn't give up entirely on getting a publisher. I got fed up of submitting to agents in the UK and submitted to a small but well respected publishing house in the US and YAY - I now have two books in print and as ebooks with them, and another I wrote for them and now have the rights back for, and have self published. I'm really happy to be published with a small press though, their editing and cover designing are brilliant, - who needs the big guys!

I'm ashamed to say I haven't posted my goals yet, but my main goal is to finish the first round of revisions of my NaNo novel - no, not the last one, the one before! (I said on Pat's blog that I'm a procrastinator!) Another one is to stop procrastinating! :)

  5. Good luck with the goals! Not all cats are cute and cuddly. Mine would end up scratching or biting you as you dozed off - I suggest a teddy bear!

Sorry to hear you've been ill, hope you're feeling better now, and good luck with your goals this month.
